We are a couple from Indiana who started out as friends and are now building our first home together #VanLife
More about Julia
My name is Julia, I am 25 years old and from Fort Wayne Indiana. I currently work for a pharmaceutical company as a clinical trial associate. When I’m not working I am either trying to make my dream for #VanLife a reality by watching countless YouTube videos/tutorials, nurturing my plant babies, completing D.I.Y projects or being outside. Traveling and living on the road has been a dream of mine for quite some time.
It was sophomore year in college when I first discovered nomadic living. I was watching a video of one of my favorite YouTubers, Sarah’s Day, when the next suggested video was a young couple trying to accomplish a van build in 30 days. Their names are Eamon and Bec. If you are familiar with van life then you probably know who they are. I instantly became sucked in and before I knew it, I was in a rabbit hole of van builds, travel series, best places to park videos, etc.
Even though I wanted so badly to just up and quit school, leave my job and live on the road, I couldn’t…not yet. I needed to graduate and secure a job that I could take on the road. My college mentor suggested I apply for a job at Eli Lilly. When reviewing the description, I thought there was very little chance they would actually hire me. I studied business management in public affairs and had no prior experience in clinical trial management, but I’ve always been a quick learner. I must have done very well in the interview because I got the job! I’ve been there for two years and I’m finally in a position where I can pitch to work remotely, so wish me luck.
More about Joe
My name is Joe, I am 27 years old and from a small town in southern Indiana. I’m a thrill seeker who enjoys activities that challenge me to expand my comfort zone and all around experiences. I had a very adventurous childhood and started pushing the boundaries as early as I can remember. I was riding a bike without any training wheels when I was three, got my first dirt-bike for my fifth birthday, and was doing flips from thirty foot cliffs by the time I was ten. So, it’s safe to say I basically fell in love with just about any extreme sport I came across.
After years of wear and tear I started to find enjoyment in other things, such as: reading, writing, and traveling. Once I graduated college I road tripped out West to work in California. I met two European guys who turned into some really great friends. They invited me to come visit them in Europe where I backpacked France and Spain. There, I immersed myself into a whole new world; from culinary art to street art . After arriving back in the states I wasn’t quite ready to go back to reality. Instead, I found myself traveling solo across country on a vintage motorcycle. Even though it left me stranded on the side of the road, I wouldn’t change a thing about the experience.
One of the main things my travels taught me was that I simply cannot stay still. Not for long at least. I learned more about #VanLife and decided it was the perfect fit for me. I settled into Indianapolis and applied for a job doing roofing. By the end of the interview I landed a better paying job in sales. Then, I started to save up and focus on buying a van. Fast forward two years and here we are.
It has been a long and enduring process for me to stay still as long as I have. I have never been more ready to start a new chapter in my life.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little more. We look forward to growing and finding freedom in the unfamiliar.
Cheers
