Maya Phuket Hotel
Maya Phuket hotel is the perfect place to unwind from your long journey to Phuket. The quiet atmosphere makes relaxing easy. The air conditioned rooms are perfect to cool off from the jungle’s heat.
How to get there
We chose this hotel because it was extremely close to the Phuket International hotel; 5 minute drive to be exact. It is located in the Sirinat National Park which is right next to the Naiyang Beach. To get to the hotel we used the Grab app which is the U.S. version of Uber/Lyft. It was easy to operate and we were picked up very quickly. Be sure to follow the signs to the Grab pick up location.
About the property
We got in pretty late, I think it was around 11pm local time and there was someone at their was still someone at the front desk which was a relief. They upgraded our room to the Grand Deluxe Room which was so kind. The lobby had a beautiful light installation that really elevates the place. When walking in, you are greeted with the large pool that is placed in the center of the property. I was too tired to enjoy it but looking back, I wish I did. The property has a gym, restaurant and bar. There is a breakfast buffet option for about $7USD that is totally worth it. It’s a huge spread that offers traditional Thai breakfast and American Style.

Our Honest Review
I was so thankful the room had A/C that worked really well. It was ice cold when we walked in, which was so refreshing considering I was immediately dripping sweat once I got off the plane due to the high temps and humidity. It was quiet and I felt safe. Our room faced the pool and part of the forest which was so beautiful and serene to look at. The shower did not drain that well. Water filtered into the hallway which was annoying and must be common since they had a drain their too. The bed was extremely comfortable and very clean. Customer service was great. Even though I didn’t speak the language I didn’t feel uncomfortable and felt welcomed. I would definitely come back!

Art’s Riverview Lodge Review
In November of 2023, Joe and I participated in the group travel trip hosted by Trova Trip. After sleeping in tents on the beach for a few days, we then headed back towards the mainland to stay at Art’s Riverview Lodge. Nestled in the Khao Sok National Park is this beautiful eco lodge.
How to get there
From Phuket
From the Phuket airport, it is about an 3 hour drive. The lodge offer’s private transportation via minivan anywhere in Phuket. Each van carries about 8 adults with luggage. If you don’t want to use private transportation, you can take the public bus. There is a central bus station in Phuket town. Take the bust heading north to Surathani and the ride will take you about 4 hours.
Khao Lak
The lodge offer’s private transport via minivan. If you are island hoping, they can pick you up from the pier. Another option is the local bus. Take it towards Surathani and the bus will pass the junction for Khao Sok National Park- get off there at the Khao Sok bus stop. If you’re driving yourself from Khao Lak, it will be about 1.4 hours.
About the property
This beautiful eco-lodge is located in the middle of the Khao Sok jungle. It offers cottage style accommodations and even tree houses! The lodge was built by Chachris Sukprasert “Art” who is a former teacher with a love for nature and the south Thai lifestyle. The kitchen and and common spaces are open concept which makes you feel completely submersed in the jungle. Art’s River Lodge is the perfect place to feel one with nature. My favorite part of the lodge is how quiet it is. It’s very peaceful with only the sounds of the Khao Sok River, animals and the breeze of the leaves.
A few of my favorite hotel facilities

Overall Review
Staying at Art’s Riverview lodge was a magical experience. As someone who has never been to Thailand, it was an amazing way to be submerged in the southern Thai local lifestyle and experience the local jungle. The staff took us on a hike throughout the the jungle and we stopped to swim in the river which was so cool. The food was delicious and affordable and the buffet breakfast did not disappoint. If I find myself in Thailand again, I will be for sure putting this on my list.

How To Insulate Campervan Ceiling
It is important to insulate your campervan ceiling to maintain a comfortable temperature. On hot days insulation will help keep the heat out and you cool. Same goes for when it’s cold. Campervans are made up of very thin sheet metal which contain no insulation on their own. Therefore, the temperature outside is easily conducted and transferred to the inside of your van. Since the van walls are so thin, we also decided to apply a sound barrier to help with noise transfer. See below for the steps we took to insulate our campervan ceiling.
We chose to use Kilmat as the sound barrier because it was highly recommended in the #vanlife forums . To apply the sound barrier follow our steps below.
Step 1: Clean and Prep the Surface
Supplies Needed
Before applying the sound barrier, make sure you clean the surface thoroughly. I used Simple Green cleaner mixed with soap and water. After your walls are cleaned, examine and treat any exposed metal to prevent rust. We used Rustoleum spray paint for this.

Step 2: Apply Sound Barrier
Supplies Needed
First, cut each sheet into four sections. Once you have your all of your sheets cut, you can apply the sound barrier. Peel off the protective backing paper from the piece and carefully apply the Kilmat onto your wall. After that is complete, take your roller and roll your Kilmat until the bumps are flat. This will take some elbow grease so be patient and take your time.

Step 3: Repeat
Repeat steps 1-2 throughout your van walls and ceiling.

Once your sound barrier is in place, you can move on to the next step…
Step 4: Apply Foam Board to Ceiling
Supplies Needed
We left the ribs of the ceiling exposed to utilize them as furring strips for our ceiling and insulated in between.
First, you will you will measure the length and width of the ceiling cavities then transpose those dimensions on to the insulation foam board.
Next, secure the foam board to the ceiling cavities with insulation tape. To secure, place the insulation tape around the perimeter of the your piece of foam board.
Repeat these steps until your ceiling is complete.

Step 5: Cover Foam Board with Reflectix
Supplies Needed
The Reflectix will be acting as a vapor barrier for the ceiling. Creating a vapor barrier adds an extra layer of protection and insulation to the foam board. To install the Reflectix, tape it over the installed poly foam board . The Reflectix will need to be slightly larger than the foam board to insure the entire perimeter of the foam boards is covered.
Once complete, your ceiling should look something like this.

HOW TO INSTALL VINYL FLOORING IN A CAMPERVAN
Now that you know How To Install a Subfloor in a Campervan, you can move on to your next step: Installing the vinyl flooring.
Install Plywood Base Layer
Supplies
- 1/2 inch OSB Plywood
- Saw
- 1 inch screws
- Drill
- Liquid Nails
First, you will need to measure the perimeter of your floor. Some vans come with factory lined flooring that you can use as a template. Unfortunately, ours did not so it took some trial and error to get it right.

Once you have your template you can then cut your plywood to size. After you cut your flooring, dry fit it to ensure you have snug fit.
Now that your flooring fits, you can install it with a combination of liquid nail adhesive, screws, and nails. Apply the adhesive over your framework.

After the plywood is glued down, further secure it by screwing down through the 2×2 framework.
Mark the Center Line
Supplies
- Chalk line
- Rubber mallet
- Vinyl Planks
- Utility blade
It is important to mark the center line before you install your vinyl flooring in our campervan so that you know your planks will be straight and even. Measure the width of the area you will be installing the planks on and find the center. Next, mark the center line. We used a chalk line to achieve this.

Next, start on your first row. We started by splitting the plank in half with a utility blade. Then, we placed the tongue side of the plank against the wall. Below is the diagram from the instructions to give you a better understanding of what side is the tongue and what is the groove.

For each row, connect the tongue and groove together at a low angle. You can feel the planks lock together. Then use the rubber mallet to lightly tap the edge of the plank to further secure it. Repeat these steps throughout the van floor.

And just like that, you now have a solid floor and foundation for the rest of your build!
